When I assumed office there was a $7.3 million budget deficit. Through hard work and fiscal responsibility we were able to eliminate that deficit and pass three on time and balanced budgets while reducing the real property tax rate. I prioritized replenishing the fund balance to a healthy level that is why Moody’s Investors Service gave Annapolis its second upgrade in the past two years because of, as Moody’s stated, “Their strong fiscal management.”
I also wanted to work with our county and state government secure new funding for our city. My administration has been able to secure:
A SAFER grant for our Fire Department , which has allowed us to hire 12 new firefighters.
$1 million from Governor Larry Hogan for flood mitigation, which will pay for the preliminary design phase of our project to address nuisance flooding at City Dock.
Capital Safe Streets funding of $325,000 from Governor Hogan, which is double the average annual allocation.
PILOT funding from the Governor for a police body worn camera.
I plan and promise my administration will continue to be fiscally responsible while our programs and policies will not be compromised.
